Kazuri means "small and beautiful" in Swahili. The Kazuri bead factory in Kenya was started to help single mothers find employment. It's since expanded to nearly 350 employees, with a focus on employing disadvantaged Kenyans. We buy the leftover beads from larger orders because we like the "imperfections" present.

When we ran out of the beads we purchased in Nairobi, we began working with MeShe Jewelry. The owners there partner with a nonprofit building schools in Kenya. MeShe puts the profits from the beads we buy towards Gateway to Victory’s missions and work in Kenya. We’re donating an portion of this necklace purchase to them.

Then, of course, there’s the donation to First Love Kenya, the organization that led us to discover Kazuri and without whom we never would have started this site.

Thread for fringe and other materials used are purchased from craft stores. Bead and tassel measure 3.5 inches; chain measures 28 inches.

Custom orders available. Select from Teal, Sand, Sea Blue, Cranberry, Forest and Greige beads, and any color fringe.

Cost to make: $4.50
(Materials: $3.00, Labor: $1.50)
Credit card processing fee: $0.93

Charitable donation: $14.57
(73% of purchase price)

$2 goes to Gateway to Victory, and $12.57 goes to First Love Kenya.
